The basic goal of the game is to create sets out of suited tiles. In the 13-tile “Hong Kong style,” four sets of three tiles plus a pair wins you the round. Players—who gather in groups of four—take turns drawing, discarding, and poaching tiles to form sets, which are assembled through both chance and skill.
