Chinese Mahjong
In MCR scoring, the base point value is determined by the number of fans. Each fan doubles the base (e.g., 8 fans = 8 points, 9 fans = 16 points, using a doubling scale). On a discard win, the player who discarded the winning tile pays the full amount while the other two players pay half. On a self-draw win, all three players pay the full amount. Dealer payments are typically doubled in traditional scoring systems.

At the start of a game, seats are typically assigned randomly by rolling dice or drawing tiles. Each seat corresponds to a wind: East, South, West, and North, which determines each player's seat wind tile bonus for that round. East seat is the dealer for the first hand. After each hand, seats and wind assignments rotate, though the exact rotation method varies by ruleset. The game typically consists of at least one full East round and one South round.
