Chinese Mahjong
To win, you need 14 tiles that form four sets (chows, pungs, or kongs) plus one pair, and your hand must score the minimum required fans, typically 8 fans in standard MCR play. You can win either by drawing the winning tile yourself from the wall (self-draw) or by claiming another player's discard as your final tile. The hand is then declared, fans are counted, and payment is collected from the other players.

At the start of a game, seats are typically assigned randomly by rolling dice or drawing tiles. Each seat corresponds to a wind: East, South, West, and North, which determines each player's seat wind tile bonus for that round. East seat is the dealer for the first hand. After each hand, seats and wind assignments rotate, though the exact rotation method varies by ruleset. The game typically consists of at least one full East round and one South round.
