Chinese Mahjong
When multiple players want to claim the same discard, winning claims (mahjong) always take priority over everything else. After that, a pung or kong claim takes priority over a chow claim. If two players both want to pung the same tile, the player whose turn comes next in the playing order takes priority. Chows can only be claimed by the player whose turn is immediately next; no other player may claim a discard for a chow.

At the start of a game, seats are typically assigned randomly by rolling dice or drawing tiles. Each seat corresponds to a wind: East, South, West, and North, which determines each player's seat wind tile bonus for that round. East seat is the dealer for the first hand. After each hand, seats and wind assignments rotate, though the exact rotation method varies by ruleset. The game typically consists of at least one full East round and one South round.
